Adventist Health System, a nonprofit health-care
organization operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, has been recognized
by Gallup as being one of the best places in the world to work.
Gallup, whose decisions are based on rigorous research, said
the 70,000 people employed by Adventist Health System are among the
best-performing, most productive and engaged workforces anywhere.
Adventist Health System is among 36 organizations awarded with
the Gallup Great Workplace Award this month, the fourth year in a row that it
has received the distinction.
"We are honored to be part of this award,” said Brian
Adams, president and CEO at Florida Hospital Tampa, which is part of Adventist
Health System and employs 2,500 people.
“We recognize that highly engaged employees provide our
patients with extraordinary care and as a result, improved clinical outcomes,”
he said in a statement.
Other 2014 winners include Hyatt Hotels, U.S. wholesale
roofing distributor ABC Supply, and the United Arab Emirates-based bank Mashreq.
Gallup said only 13 percent of employees worldwide are
engaged in their workplaces.
“The organizations we honor are ones that have worked hard
to reverse what is typical and they average nine engaged employees for every
actively disengaged employee," said Jim Harter, Gallup's chief scientist
of workplace management and wellbeing and coauthor of “Wellbeing: The Five
Essential Elements.”
Adventist Health System has 45 hospital campuses and nearly
8,300 licensed beds in 10 U.S. states.
