The community services
of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Solomon Islands received huge support
from the public and church members following a disaster appeal. Close to 50,000
are homeless from recent flooding. More than 20 persons lost their lives in the
floods, according to media reports.

Adventist members erected
a tent at the Kukum Adventist Church car-park on Tuesday April 8 to receive
public donations for flood victims.

The appeal kicked off on
Tuesday night for food, clothes, utensils, and cash.
The tent was packed with
mixed goods. Anna Tahani, a disaster relief volunteer, said all the mixed goods
including utensils, clothes, and food, will be donated to the victims.
“We will
sort out the mixed goods sometime this weekend and take them to the flood
victims,” she said.



Tahani indicated that
volunteer workers have a list of families that will receive the donations. The
goods will be distributed in areas like Koa Hill, Varacreek, and Mamana Wata,
Fijian Quarter.
A black bucket was set inside the tent for monetary donations.
More than $20,000 cash was received.


Tahani said the money would
be use to buy needed supplies for the victims. She said food and water is
the immediate need at the moment.
The disaster appeal program closed on Friday
April 11.
