Think About It
Read Exodus 20:17. God placed the tenth commandment in the Decalogue for our good. We spend too much time and energy being jealous of what others have. God knows what each human can handle. It was His wisdom to place it tenth. But all of the first nine are covered in it. Physical, mental, and spiritual health depend on not coveting.

Adventist Life
I will never forget an experience I had with my son, Truman, when he was 3. We had recently moved to a new community and a new church. As I was teaching him to pray I always told him to talk to God about what he liked and didn’t like about his day, and then to pray for others who may need prayer.

Our church experienced several deaths and funerals. I would model a prayer for the widows, naming them one by one. When Truman said his prayer, he would pray for them, too.

I learned a valuable lesson in the use of words one night when Truman prayed for our three widowed members and chose to be quite specific with his request. He said, “Please be with Ferol, Linda, and Ms. Helen. They ‘lost’ their husbands. Please, God, help them to find them so they are not lonely!”
