Adventist Life
We inherited a tiny, cat-chasing dog named Precious when my mother passed away. We already had two dog-hating cats. We set down the law with the three animals. The cats would not claw the dog, and the dog would not chase the cats. Fairly early on there was an unhappy truce as the animals tried to obey their humans.
 
One good thing came from the hostility. Precious was a fussy eater, and even though she had great variety, she would play the game “I don’t think I like this food anymore.” Frustrated, I decided to place her food dish near the cats. Success! Precious quickly wolfed down the food so the cats wouldn’t eat it.
 
Now, I always find a cat before putting down the dog dish. As I do this, I’m reminded of the first part of Psalm 23:5: “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies” (KJV).

Our fifth-grade class was having a Bible discussion on baptism. We learned that John the Baptist also baptized Jesus. I asked the students, “If Jesus did not have any sin, why did Jesus ask John to baptize Him?”
 
One girl quickly replied, “Jesus wanted to see if John was a good baptizer.”

Reading about the proposed McDonald’s restaurant to be built in Loma Linda (see news article in Adventist Review, Feb. 16, 2012) reminded me of a question my daughter asked when she was 3 years old. Her favorite song at that age was “Roll, Roll Your Burdens Away.” She would sing this in countless repetitions. One day she abruptly stopped singing and asked, “Why do we have to roll our burgers away?”
