Sound Bite
“It’s nice to be important. But it’s more important to be nice.”

My brother Stephen and I teach the kindergarten Sabbath school class at church. One day we were telling the story of Jacob and Esau. When mentioning that Jacob stole Esau’s inheritance, my brother asked, “Does anyone know what an inheritance is?” After getting no response, he continued, “It’s like a will. Do you know what a will is?”

Two students quickly replied, “Yes! It’s the thing on the side of the car that goes around and around!”

We explained what a “will” was and continued on with the story. At the end of class we asked, “What’s an inheritance?”

A little girl in the back shouted out, “A tire!”

I pray that we are better at making a difference in lives than we are at explaining vocabulary terms.

Think About It
Read Philippians 4:11-13. Paul gives me comfort in this passage. Even though I have faltered in my faith like others, I don’t worry like I used to. I scrape the bottom, financially, some months. But then, I remember how the Lord has taken care of me in the past. I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength—in all things and in every situation.
—Joe Cobb, Greenwood, Mississippi
