Give & Take

2011 1518 page13Adventist Life
When I was a child I would say a widely known prayer every night. One word in the prayer puzzled me, so out of curiosity I asked my mother what it meant.

“Mom, what does ‘lickle’ mean?”

Mom replied: “What does ‘lickle’ mean?”

“Yeah,” I said. “Every time I say my prayer—‘Gentle Jesus meek and mild, look upon this lickle child’—I get confused by the word ‘lickle.’ ”

Mom burst out laughing and said, “It’s not ‘lickle’; it’s little!” We both got a chuckle that day, and I’m sure Jesus did, too!

2011 1518 page13Camp Meeting Memories
Camp meeting seven years ago was very memorable for me. My sister and I always reserved a tent. That particular year my sister brought air mattresses to put on top of the narrow cots. The air mattresses were somewhat wider than the cots, but we decided to use them anyway.

The first three nights went very well. The fourth night it rained. About 3:00 a.m. I was sleeping soundly until I turned over on my cot. All of a sudden one side of the air mattress flipped up and the other side went down.

Yes, you guessed it! I, with all my covers and pillow, slid out of the tent onto the wet ground—and on top of an ant bed!

Now fully awake, I struggled to get the air mattress, my covers, and myself back on the cot. Surprisingly, I was able to go right back to sleep!

The next day, after telling my story, I was the laugh of the tent city!

Herald’s Trumpet
Hi, kids! Our imaginary angel named Herald is back to help us trumpet the best news you’ll ever hear: Jesus is coming again. The trumpet is once again hidden somewhere in this magazine. If you find it, send a postcard telling us where. Be sure to include your name and address! Then we’ll randomly choose three winning postcards.

In our last contest (April 14, 2011) we had 25 entries! Our three winners were Kami Medina, from Camden, Maine; David and Erik Scoggins, from Brainerd, Minnesota; and Sara Tesch, from Bono, Arizona. Each received a book from Pacific Press. Where was the trumpet? On page 26.

If you can find the trumpet this time, send your postcard to Herald’s Trumpet, Adventist Review, 12501 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, MD 20904-6600. The prize will be a book from Pacific Press! Look for the three winners’ names in the October 20, 2011, edition of the Adventist Review. Have fun searching and keep trumpeting Jesus’ love—and His second coming!
