A SIGN WORTH SHARING: This photo was taken at the viewing of Dorothy Watts, who, along with her husband, Ron, spent more than 26 years serving as a missionary. She passed away on November 8, 2010.

 

Members of the Southern Asia Seventh-day Adventist Church in Maryland, along with members of the General Conference staff, gathered to honor her memory with gratitude to God for a life distinguished by an intentional ministry toward suffering women and children—especially orphans in India. A generation of young people was also blessed by the reading of her youth devotional books and her never-to-be-forgotten 2004 Youth Week of Prayer sermons for junior and senior youth, published in the Youth Ministry Accent magazine.

My daughter had the privilege of welcoming the members and friends to our church ?service last Sabbath morning. This is what she said:

 

“Good morning and welcome! Let’s take a trip back in time. This morning we won’t be checking Web sites or our phone calls. Even e-mails will have to wait. Facebook is closed, and Twitter flew away. We missed the Webinar, and podcast is over. Texting is expressly prohibited. There is no special app for this service, and even basic cable is down.

 

“Get ready for a one-time ‘reality show’—loving, happy friends sharing a warm hug and a hearty handshake in real time! Tell a neighbor you are glad they came today. And for the tech-starved—call it a new and improved YouTube and MeTube! Have a great Sabbath day!”
