Camp Memories
We were coming back to eastern Washington from a convention of the Northwest Adventist Amateur Radio Association held at Camp Hope in Hope, British Columbia. We decided to take the beautiful North Cascades Highway, where we noticed the following inscription on the sign board of a little country church in Twisp, Washington:
“JESUS PAID THE PRICE.YOU GET THE CHANGE.”

Winter White, Spring Light
The vibrant hues,
the verdant greens
of flower and blade of grass
fade away as autumn—
with fond and lingering touch—
makes its yearly pass.

Pastor Elvis Mogoi of the West Wilmington Seventh-day Adventist Church loves to give members a fresh perspective on the familiar stories of the Bible—and this is what he did with the story of Jesus healing the man at the Pool of Bethesda:
“Jesus came and touched his life,” he said. Then he mentioned that the Hebrew word Bethesda means house of mercy. And isn’t that what our church should be—a house of mercy?
As Mogoi pondered on the word BETHESDA in English, he discovered that it contains an additional message for us: BE-THE-SDA [the Lord wants us to be!]. As Seventh-day Adventists we should be merciful to others as God has been merciful to us!

One lovely evening during prayer meeting I was asked to have closing prayer. After ending the prayer with a hearty “Amen,” someone from the congregation said, “You forgot the pastor!”
A thoughtful moment passed. Then I said in a humorous manner: “Well, the pastor’s on vacation!”
Everybody had a joyful laugh!
