CAMP MEETING MEMORIES“Thus far has the Lord led us.”
“The Rock,” near the main pavilion at Camp Wakonda in central Wisconsin, has been a popular landmark since the campgrounds were developed more than 30 years ago.
Inscribed on a plaque attached to the rock are these words: “Celebrating 25 annual camp meetings at Wakonda, while anticipating the coming of Christ, 1980-2004”
My granddaughters Raven and Keana, the sixth generation in their family to faithfully attend Wisconsin camp meetings, are pictured during the 2009 event. Several thousand Adventists enjoy the 10-day spiritual feast each June; youth camps are also held in July at this place set apart for the glory of God.
Former Wisconsin Conference president Don Corkum stated, “I hope that this rock will remind campers of God’s leading, as did the stone monuments set up by Old Testament patriarchs.”

During the 1950s I played in Virginia-Gene Rittenhouse’s orchestra for an evangelistic series in the New York City Center. It was the opening night of the series.
Professor Rittenhouse finally found a room in the bowels of the building where we could warm up. Just as we got seated a huge statue of Daniel 2 came into the room, supported by a couple of men.
In the middle of our tuning there was a terrific crash! From the depths of the orchestra came a startled voice clearly saying, “Babylon is fallen!”
