Give and Take

Sound Bite
“Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.”
—Micah 7:18,19

“It gave me a spine-tingling chill and a very warm heart,” reports a grandma.

The phone rang Sabbath afternoon and a clear, sweet, young voice said: “This is Allie. I want to tell you I played the piano for church today. I played ‘Shine, Jesus, Shine.’”

“Then the sermon was on let your light shine—without us planning it. I wasn’t even nervous. I know it was because I was playing for Jesus. Jesus really works things out!”

Then Allie added: “There were lots of ‘amens’ and they almost clapped. My piano teacher was there. I wish you could have been there.”

The setting is the College Place Village church. Allie and her family have attended this church all of her 10 years. Her piano teacher is a member. She has mobility challenges and rarely attends physically.

A big thanks to parents and teachers! Never underestimate the young, even the very young. Your examples, your prayers, and the expense of education do make a huge impact.

Only 10 more years and the Allies and Alberts will be well on the way to leadership. A huge vote of confidence to you!

2010 1537 page13I was driving home from work. The road ended at an intersection with a stop sign. As I slowed down to stop there was a break in the traffic so I made a quick right, stepped on the gas, and was pulled over for running a stop sign.

Needless to say, I didn’t want a citation, points on my driver’s license, or the possibility of increased auto insurance premiums. Although guilty, I prayed that God would deliver me from this ticket. When my case came up at traffic court, I pleaded “guilty with an explanation.” I told the judge that I was slowing down, preparing to stop, and the judge interrupted me and asked the officer who cited me, “Was it a rolling stop?”

The officer said, “I don’t have my book.”

The judge banged his gavel and said, “Case dismissed.”

I believe it was a direct answer to prayer. Some would say it was a coincidence. But isn’t a coincidence a miracle in which God chooses to remain anonymous? I’m reminded of Micah 7:18, 19.
