RECENTLY VISITED MY ALMA MATER ANDREWS UNIVERSITY FOR
the annual alumni homecoming weekend. It was hard to believe that 30 summers had passed since the day I graduated.
Going back to the campus is always a profound experience for me. This time I was deeply impressed by the new campus entrance that graces Highway M-139 (which runs in front). Eating lunch at the remodeled cafeteria spurred pangs of envy and jealousy as I scanned wide-ranging delicacies designed to please a variety of tastes.
Renewing acquaintances with faculty members was a true delight, and rediscovering former class members brought many surprises. Catching up with old friends, many of whom I hadn’t seen in years, was a real blast.
Perhaps the most interesting part of my visit was the student-led worship services. To see dozens of talented students offer creative worship expressions through drama, music, and testimony was truly exhilarating. Through the programs, I was assured that God has an army of youth to proclaim His message to future generations.
Visiting the campus brought back a flood of memories. The visit reminded of how God touched me and gave me a glimpse of the life journey He had in store for me. It reminded me of the doors God opened for me and opportunities He brought me. As it turns out, my experience at Andrews was just one part of God’s plan for me. Upon leaving the school, I would’ve never imagined that I would be where I am today.
But that’s how God is. He has plans for us that are beyond our wildest dreams.
