Gielle's Journal

2007 1505 page17 capn the March 16, 2006, issue of the Adventist Review, you met 10-year-old Gielle Kuhn, the young girl who is battling Burkitt’s lymphoma. We were all inspired by the childlike, trusting manner in which she faced her illness. Gielle returns this year—once a quarter—to share her continuing journey of faith. The typical arrangement for a blog is to post the most recent entry first, followed by the older postings. In order for our readers who are not familiar with blogs to follow the events, however, we will post them in chronological order.—Editors.

Hi! Please pray for my sister. She is sick with asthma problems. I hope she gets better so we can go to Detroit next week. I am going to play the harp for a Make-A-Wish* fund-raiser. I am so excited about it! I also made a card for Make-A-Wish when I was very sick. My mom had to encourage me every day to finish it. I felt so tired and sad, but the project with the card helped cheer me up. I sent it in, and then they chose my card for the Kids Art Contest!

Happy holidays! Thank you for your constant prayers and support!

2007 1505 page17We left home Tuesday afternoon with the rental car from Make-A-Wish, and the harp came with us! Yesterday I had a high fever and leg cramps at 2:00 a.m., and we were scared. My mom and I went to the ER in Ann Arbor at 4:00 a.m. They did many tests and scans, and we will know the results in the next couple of days. The doctors were very nice. We stayed in the ER for 12 hours. What a vacation!

We barely made it to the Make-A-Wish event. We got there a little late, but people got to hear me play. The event was beautiful. I really enjoyed it. I had energy to play the harp after all. . . . I met the Make-A-Wish president, too!

Today I am feeling a little better, just sneezing a lot. I sneezed 24 times yesterday!

This is Mom. We received the lab results on Monday. The lymphocytes and LDH are low. The doctors keep calling us every other day to check on how she is doing. . . .

Last year at this time we were at the hospital. Mucositis, pain, spinal taps, and fear were constants in our lives. Today I thank God that Gielle is smiling and playing, we are HOME, and she is ALIVE! We have so much to be thankful for.—Gisele

This is Gielle now! I wanted to let you know that the Christmas cards I made turned out beautifully! They even come with my picture on the back! . . . I have been wheezing, and that isn’t fun at all. But I can’t wait to go to Brazil on the 13th!

Today I went to school for a half day.

My, how my cards are selling! I got a special visit today from a dear friend. I loved it! She bought five packs of my cards, as well as a bookmark that I made.

Good news! Marlene’s baby was born! I saw her today (Jenny), and she is one of the cutest babies I ever saw. . . .

Bad news. Maddie died on Sunday. She was the one who lost her mom two years ago, and had Wilms’ tumor (that is in the lungs and bones). She lost one of her lungs and got paralyzed from her waist down. . . . I am very sad, and sorry for her dad and her three brothers. Please pray for their family.

May God bless you all as you are preparing for cold weather. Well, I am going to have fun in the sun for seven weeks. Good for me; bad for you!
